Students should
A. Answer the following Cnidaria review questions (The questions will be checked in class on Wednesday)
1. Identify the kingdom & name of the organism that share a symbiotic relationship with stone coral.
2. Describe how coral act as both producer & consumer.
3. Identify and describe coral’s 2 biggest economic contributions.
4. Describe the impact of over population of external algae in shallow oceans on global coral populations? Why?
5. Identify and describe 2 ways higher ocean temperatures have had a negative impact on coral populations.
6. Identify 3 ways pollution has had a negative impact on coral populations.
7. How has the over-fishing of herbivorous fish had a negative impact on coral populations.
8. How has the over-fishing of carnivorous fish had a negative impact on coral populations.
9. Describe how the elimination of sea urchins had a negative impact on coral populations in the caribbean.
10. Identify and describe 4 strategies for increasing coral populations.
11. Identify 2 types of anthozoa
12. Compare and contrast stone coral and anemones. (2 similarities and 3 differences)
13. Compare and contrast Portuguese Man O’ War and True Jellyfish.
14. Identify the 4 polyps that comprise a Portuguese Man O’ War.
15. Identify 3 classes of Cnidaria.
16. Identify an organism that has a jellyfish diet.
17. Physalia have a symbiotic relationship with another organism. Identify the other animal and describe how each animal benefits from the relationship.
18. Anemones have a symbiotic relationship with 2 other organisms. Identify the animal in each relationship and describe how each relationship benefits the animals involved.
B. Use the chromebooks to work on the Endangered Marine Animal Project (This Assignment will be due in class on Friday)
I will provide the "poster" paper for you tomorrow.
Project should display
1. Image of the organism
2. Location & habitat of the animal (A sea bird from North America and shark from New Zealand have very different habitats and locations)
3. Description of the animals place in its food web. (What does the animal eat? Who eats the animal?)
4. Three Interesting facts about the animal
5. Description of the problem(s) pushing the animal towards extinction
6. Steps students can take to protect the animal
